The honest version of a free tier names the wall before you walk into it.

You open one, she writes first, and you find out within a few exchanges whether that particular character is written in a register you like. If she is not, you close the tab and open another — there is nothing invested to lose, because you have not paid or registered a card.
By the end of the hour you will usually have two or three threads you intend to come back to. That is the point where the free tier starts to feel like a product rather than a demo, and also the point where the limits eventually show up. Everything before that costs nothing at all.
